About
Dr Siobhan Johnstone is an Epidemiologist and Programme Manager at Wits VIDA. She leads South Africa’s implementation of the CHAMPS initiative and contributes to the MIRNA Consortium, focusing on maternal immunisation readiness in Africa and Asia. Her work centres on identifying causes of death in children and stillbirths to reduce preventable mortality. Dr Johnstone holds a PhD from the University of the Witwatersrand, completed in collaboration with the NICD, where she investigated gastrointestinal infections in older children and adults. She also holds an MSc in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from the Wits School of Public Health. Prior to joining Wits VIDA, she worked as an epidemiologist at the NICD, supporting COVID-19 vaccine effectiveness studies.
