Clinical Research

At Wits VIDA Research Unit, we deliver breakthrough scientific discoveries and contribute to influential policies, through the sheer dedication of our bold research teams. Our dynamic facilities and collaborations across multiple sites in Johannesburg provide an ideal environment in which to lead important clinical research agenda, giving staff and students alike the opportunity to be part of powerful medical and scientific impacts. Join us to make a meaningful difference in the industry as well as local and international communities.

The unit’s laboratory has a prolific array of immunology assays targeted at analysing immune responses to the majority of vaccines included in public immunisation programmes, as well as against future possible vaccine targets (e.g. GBS and RSV and now including COVID-19) (excluding TB, malaria and HIV). These assays will be supplemented with the award of a Grand Challenges Exploration seed grant to develop whole genome sequencing (WGS) capacity as a ‘point of care’ test.
