About
Dr Shama Khan is a Scientist in Bioinformatics and Drug Discovery at Wits VIDA and holds a joint appointment in the Wits School of Pathology. She earned a PhD in Computational Pharmaceutical Chemistry and has over six years of experience in infectious disease bioinformatics and antimicrobial resistance. Her research combines structure-based drug design with genomics to develop novel therapeutics, particularly targeting multidrug-resistant pathogens such as Klebsiella pneumoniae and Acinetobacter baumannii. Dr Khan leads multiple translational research projects and contributes to postgraduate training. She also serves as a Principal Project Leader at South Africa’s Centre for High Performance Computing and has been awarded SARChI and NRF Innovation fellowships.
