Nadia van Niekerk

As Project Manager: Quality Assurance at the Wits VIDA Research Unit, I support laboratory management in overseeing quality assurance to ensure smooth operations, high standards, and full regulatory compliance. I also provide strategic project management and research coordination to the Research Leadership Team. 

A qualified Medical Technologist specializing in Microbiology, I began my research career in 2002. Over the past 23 years, I have contributed to a broad range of clinical research projects—including investigator-driven studies, sponsored and commercial clinical trials, and National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID)-sponsored trials. Each project presented unique challenges, enabling me to develop extensive experience in laboratory planning, setup, and oversight. My expertise also includes participant retention, health and safety, quality assurance, and overall clinical research site coordination. 

With a strong interest in medical microbiology from a disease prevention perspective, I am passionate about advancing research that supports public health and improves patient outcomes. 

I hold a National Diploma and a BTech degree in Biomedical Technology and am certified in Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP), and IATA regulations for the transport of biological specimens. I am committed to driving impactful medical research through operational excellence, compliance, and scientific integrity.
