About

David Moore is an Associate Professor in Paediatric Infectious Diseases, based at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa. He obtained Masters and Doctoral degrees through his affiliation with Wits VIDA, under the supervision of Prof Shabir Madhi. His main research interests include the epidemiology, risk factors for and aetiology of childhood pneumonia, diagnosis of paediatric infectious diseases, biomarker responses to paediatric infections as a guide for rational antibiotic prescribing, antimicrobial stewardship, and epidemiology of paediatric vaccine-preventable diseases. Childhood HIV, tuberculosis and COVID are additional research interests.

His short-term goals include consolidation of skills in data analysis using innovative analytic approaches, including machine learning and Bayesian techniques, to paediatric infectious disease diagnosis and management. He aims to gain independence in his research trajectory focussing predominantly on paediatric pneumonia, with particular emphasis on disease burden, establishing novel diagnostic approaches, establishing best practice in terms of management strategies, and optimising antibiotic stewardship practice in the arena of clinical paediatrics.
