He obtained Masters and Doctoral degrees through his affiliation with Wits VIDA, under the supervision of Prof Shabir Madhi. His main research interests include the epidemiology, risk factors for and aetiology of childhood pneumonia, diagnosis of paediatric infectious diseases, biomarker responses to paediatric infections as a guide for rational antibiotic prescribing, antimicrobial stewardship, and epidemiology of paediatric vaccine-preventable diseases.
