Dr Sutika Bhikha has been a medical research doctor at the Vaccines and Infectious Diseases Analytics (VIDA) Research Unit of the University of the Witwatersrand since 2017. She qualified as a medical doctor in 2014 and is currently completing an online International Masters in Vaccinology through the University of Lausanne, Switzerland.
She is currently principal investigator for the Novavax Covid-19 Vaccine clinical trial at Wits VIDA which has successfully enrolled over 4000 participants across 16 sites nationwide. Sutika is sub investigator on other ongoing COVID-19 vaccine clinical trials within the unit, as well as ongoing infant and maternal RSV Clinical Trials, and Rotavirus vaccine clinical trials in HIV- infected and uninfected participants. She also co-ordinated clinical trial research on monoclonal antibody against RSV administered to full term and pre-term healthy and high risk infant participants. Sutika has been co- author on numerous peer- reviewed journal articles published within the unit. She was selected to attend the Advanced Course in Vaccinology (AFRO ADVAC) in 2018.
